The 11th annual Winnetka Modernism show was great, as expected!
There was a lot of high quality 20th century furniture, decorative arts, jewelry and more for sale.
I would like to have seen more 1950s-70s furniture, but what was there was really high quality.
My favorite item at the show now sits proudly in my living room: a superb black leather cone chair, an
early production model made by Plus-Linje, designed by Verner Panton. I love it!
Some other great things which caught my eye include a green "pony" chair by Eero Aarnio, a whimsical foam and fabric design by Eero Aarnio in 1973;
a rare chair by Arne Jacobsen for the SAS Hotel in Copenhagen (see top photo below);
a unique dining set by George Nelson for Herman Miller; an orange foam chair by Pierre Paulin for Artifort;
a storage cabinet and mailbox drawers by Gaetano Pesce; lots of Scandanavian light fixtures; a pair of white
plastic stacking chairs by Verner Panton; a Harry Bertoia "Bird" chair; a purple George Nelson "Coconut" chair;
lots of small decorative accessories, artwork, books and many items I had never seen before. All in all it was very
entertaining and educational.
Below are some snapshots I took at the show, of things which caught my eye. The lighting wasn't the best
and they show only a very small fraction of the items at the show, but it will give you some idea of how great
the show was. There was lots of merchandise from 1900-1950 in addition to what you will see in these photos,
since my interest is mostly in post-1950 design.
I went to the opening party, so was able to shop without too many people in the way, and take a few snapshots.
And now.... the photos:
