| Joe is the President and co-founder of Chicago Bauhaus & Beyond, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, which celebrates and promotes the rich 20th century modernist architecture and design legacy of the Chicago area. The group hosts tours, seminars, gallery talks, educational tours and social events covering mid-century modern houses and interior design, arts and crafts and more. The group derives its name from the famed Bauhaus school in Germany, which re-opened in Chicago post-WWII under the direction of Laszlo Moholy-Nagy. The New Bauhaus became the Institute of Design, which later merged with the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) where Mies van der Rohe headed the Department of Architecture. The exploration of the influence this school, professors and students had on design both in those times and beyond is the topic of this delightful and educational organization.
