From the Publisher & Webmaster:

Some people have children.
I have jetsetmodern.com.

When I started this website in 1995, I had no idea what I was in for. It's certainly grown to be much more than I ever even hoped. I sat in my tiny office, knowing little about Bertoia and Eames but lots about style and html. My journey through cyberspace began by creating a modest, hokey little site showing my collection and latest thrift store scores. It wasn't long before I realized I wasn't the only one out there who was more excited by my daily thrift store finds than by my professional technical career. Ebay was an infant when I began buying and selling there, long before it was public, even before there were PHOTOS in the listings, before most of us had ever even heard of a device called a digital camera! Ah yes, the world has changed dramatically from my earliest website days. What started as a hobby became my obsession, then my livelihood, and whole lot of fun. Customers became friends; friends became customers. Now I can't even tell when I'm at work and when I'm at play. It's become my life, something like raising my own kid.

My first piece of modern furniture was a fantastic 1963 hand-me-down 9' long sofa from my parents, still one of my favorite items today. Next came a Bird chair by Harry Bertoia, one of my favorite artists/designers, and the list goes on and on. My collection grew and evolved and somewhere along the way I became a dealer. '70s pop radios, clocks, chairs, lighting, furniture, rugs. I nearly had to put in a revolving door on my own house, as things came and went in a flash, it seemed. As the website and collection grew, I was dealing more and more, then searching for years for the right modernist house and eventually, even that became my reality. Today I'm launching my online magazine. What have I gotten myself into? I know where I've been but not where I'm going, and about that, I'm thrilled.

Along the way, I found you (lots of you), and nothing's been the same since. Introductory emails developed into long-lasting, meaningful friendships. Cara Greenberg took me under her wing at Modernism Magazine, publishing my articles and providing lots of encouragement; Sandy McLendon was the wind beneath me, offering continuous support and invaluable, insightful content to my site. Without them, my site would not be the same; nor would I. I can never thank them enough, and countless other friends who've been there for me. Too numerous to mention, you know who you are and that I appreciate you! My pages have been graced with my own chickenscratch graphics, long ago replaced by the more professional ones created for me by talented friends. The email discussion group that Sandy and I created now has over 475 active participants, still proving to be one of the greatest resources for fun and knowledge about 20th century modern design. My pages get seen by 1480 people PER DAY now, hard to believe yet true.

So.... now jetsetmodern is officially a free online magazine and still a thriving vintage modern shopping destination. A free site, in the spirit of the old days of the internet. You don't subscribe, just enjoy! You'll find more content here on this "little" site than in most printed books, certainly far more up-to-date; so keep digging through the pages til you find it all. And you'll find more info here than ANY magazine, of very high caliber, if I do say so myself.

Buckle up and enjoy your trip back to the modernist 20th Century. Let's see where the journey takes us.
