From the Editor:
This, my second letter to readers, can only begin in one place - with thanks for all the appreciation shown for Jetsetmodern’s premiere issue. The avalanche of reader emails was absolutely astounding, showing that you’re not just checking the magazine out - you’re reading it very closely. The response to our Tip Jars was also encouraging. We’re not rolling in wealth, but it’s obvious to us that many of you are taking our appeal for donations to heart. We’re tremendously grateful to you all.
What’s this second issue about? Well, it’s about a lot of things, from a John Dinkeloo house you can buy, to a feature about every boomers’ dream car - the original Ford Mustang - to a feature about the next big opportunity in collectibles, modern sterling silver flatware. That’s a very mixed bag, but if it makes the issue about any one thing, it makes it about being unbound by rules.
Here at Jetsetmodern, we look for what readers really love, whether it’s a automobile, a piece of furniture, a designer, an architect - even a hemline, if it was one that moved the world towards tomorrow. Around here, the person who was responsible for an exceptional modern car, or dress - or even a measuring cup - is just as important as Mies Van der Rohe. Maybe more so, if the design touched enough lives. If anyone is aghast that we’re lumping the greats together with lesser-known, more populist designers, we have only one thing to say - keep your Pantheon.
Keep looking to us for great design, and for something more - articles about artifacts of Mid-Century popular culture. We were there, and we want you to know how great the future used to be. Stick around - we’ve got lots more to tell.
