Eames fiberglass shell chair
Fiberglass shell chair, designed by Charles Eames, 1948-50. This was the first fiberglass chair made with the fiberglass exposed. Originally made by Zenith Plastics for Herman Miller Furniture Co. A variety of bases were used over the years of production including the typical H-base with four legs (shown here), the "Eiffel Tower base", an "Eiffel tower" rocker base, and a low lounge chair wire base. Knockoffs of the bases are now being made and many people are replacing their H base on vintage shell with a new base for a "higher end look".
